Acoustic Louvres – Ultimate Noise Control Without Compromising Airflow

Noise pollution or excessive noise levels are said to be the largest source of complaints to the Environment Protection Authority in Australia. Elevated noise levels can affect both physiological and psychological aspects of human life, causing annoyance, aggression, high-stress levels, hypertension, sleep disturbances, and even hearing loss. To reduce the health risks and create a healthy and comfortable environment for human living, it is necessary to reduce noise levels where possible, and one of the ways to achieve that goal is to use appropriate noise control solutions.

Acoustic louvres from Noise Control Engineering (NCE) are used when it is necessary to reduce or attenuate excessive noise while ensuring the appropriate level of airflow to or from the noise-generating equipment, such as air conditioning systems, cooling towers, refrigeration units, etc., which are commonly installed and used at different commercial and industrial facilities. In addition to noise reduction, acoustic louvres may also serve as weather barriers; furthermore, they can also be equipped with protective bird screens to avoid bird capturing in the air passages. Irrespective of a particular application, NCE acoustic louvres are always designed to become a harmonious element of the exterior of the building while performing their primary function of noise attenuation.

Acoustic louvres are manufactured in strict accordance with the best practices and industry standards, using the most advanced and efficient soundproofing materials and technologies. NCE acoustic louvres are produced from steel, stainless steel, or aluminium sheets with angle flanges or blades attached to ensure maximum possible airflow and, at the same time, reduce the noise effectively. Special acoustic fibreglass filling is used as the sound isolation agent in the acoustic louvres panels from NCE. In order to match the exterior, acoustic louvres can be painted, galvanised, or otherwise finished to meet the customer's individual design expectations.

Acoustic Louvre Supplier

NCE offers acoustic louvres for residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed areas of application. Typical examples where acoustic louvres are used include but are not limited to the following:

  • Inlets of the ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration units;
  • Cooling towers;
  • Commercial and industrial areas ventilation systems;
  • Relief air outlets at plants, factories, workshops;
  • Power generators and compressor enclosures, where airflow in and out, are essential.

The National Standard of Australia, which regulates the level of noise, stipulates that noise levels cannot be higher than 85 dBA at workplaces. On sites where noise exceeds the allowed level, noise control solutions, such as acoustic enclosures and acoustic louvres, should be implemented. Acoustic louvres can ensure the reduction of noise level by approximately 5-20 dBA.

The peculiarity and specificity of acoustic louvres, among other noise control solutions, is that they should be able to reduce noise pollution while not interfering with the airflow in or out of the building. To comply with this requirement, NCE designs the blades of the acoustic louvres in a particular manner in order to ensure the lowest possible pressure drop in airflow. The shape and the angle of the blade's positioning are also considered while designing acoustic louvres.

By choosing acoustic louvres from NCE, customers can count on benefiting from the following advantages of NCE products: a variety of shapes and sizes available, multiple types of finishes offered, additional weather barrier functionality, optional bird screen, perforated layer for better sound absorption, durable construction, and high performance in noise reduction.
