Audiometric rooms are designed for use for earphone audiometric testing. An audiometric booth is not a soundproof room but is used where there is a need to reduce the surrounding noise to a very low level and prevent any echo or boom within the booth. This is done by reducing external noise to the same proportion as the noise within the booth.
Features include:
Booths are generally constructed of galvanised mild steel and lined with acoustic fibreglass faced with acoustic galvanised perforated metal. The floor would be of similar construction to the walls, with suitable structural support as required. Anti-vibration mounts are fitted to minimise the amount of vibration reaching the unit. A single door is sealed with moulded rubber strips and heavy hinges and can be opened from inside or outside. A double-glazed window would be fitted to one wall. Positive ventilation is by means of a fan and discharged via an attenuated outlet.
